REBECCA HEXT

Born and raised near the ocean in Manhattan Beach, California, Rebecca developed an interest for the outdoors through surfing and swimming. After relocating to San Luis Obispo, California to pursue a BA degree in English at Cal Poly SLO, Rebecca was introduced to the world of hiking and backpacking through the Sierra Club on campus. These experiences inspired her to pursue a career in facilitating outdoor recreation opportunities for anyone that is interested in giving it a try.

Prior to becoming the Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator for STARS, Rebecca has worked as a Surf Instructor, a Wake-board/Water-ski Instructor, the Administrative Head Lifeguard at a children’s summer camp, and the Volunteer and Expo Coordinator for a local non-profit (Manhattan Beach 10K Run) in her hometown.

After deciding she wanted to move out of California, Rebecca spent three months in the summer of 2019 traveling around the Western U.S. looking for the right place to call home. Steamboat quickly stole her heart with its beautiful natural landscape, small-town charm, and warm-hearted locals. Rebecca is wildly excited to begin this next chapter and to get to know her community members through her position with STARS.

Why I love STARS:

I am truly humbled and honored to be a part of this organization. I have never worked with a team of more dedicated and passionate individuals! Volunteering has always been a big part of my life and has taught me so many valuable lessons about the power of selflessness. I am eager to help facilitate the best volunteer experience possible for our compassionate volunteers and enthusiastic participants! For me, the outdoors has always represented and offered healing. The ocean, the forests, and the mountains have always been the places I know I can turn to when I need clarity. Knowing that my role with STARS is helping to give someone the opportunity to learn that for themselves is endlessly rewarding.

Other stuff about Rebecca:

  • For my 23rd birthday, I hiked all 220 miles of the John Muir Trail in California on a 19-day solo trek, ending with a sunrise summit of Mount Whitney!
  • My hobbies include backpacking, rock-climbing, and cycling
  • My favorite color is yellow, my favorite season is Spring, and I love sunflowers
