Susan is a Colorado native who grew up in Fort Collins before attending college at the University of California, San Diego and then moving to Steamboat for “one ski season” over 30 years ago. After a season of ski bumming she settled into a long career with the Steamboat Parks & Recreation Department overseeing recreation programs and events. She then joined the Yampa Valley Community Foundation where she worked with donors to find their passion and support the many nonprofits in our valley. Most recently she has acted as the Community Mobilizer for a statewide prevention effort focused on youth.
Susan joins the team as the Development Director to cultivate relationships with donors, oversee fundraising events and work to support the mission of STARS.
Why I love STARS…
Beginning in middle school I had the opportunity to work alongside my mom and aunt who started a therapeutic riding program that is now a robust organization in Fort Collins called “Hearts & Horses”. Volunteering to assist individuals with disabilities instilled in me a life-long passion for helping others. Shortly after making Steamboat my forever home I began volunteering every Saturday for the Horizons Ski Program which evolved into the amazing organization we now call STARS.
Now that the STARS Ranch is a reality the possibilities for the future are endless! I am excited to begin the work of raising funds for the next phase to build out the property with some incredible additions to empower our participants in reaching their full potential through recreation.
