Theresa was born and raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Her family always fostered a love and appreciation for the outdoors through fishing, hiking, golfing, skiing, and many other recreational activities. Her passion in life has always been to help people and she is so grateful to have found a career where she can combine her love for the outdoors and serving others.
Theresa went to school at Metropolitan State University of Denver where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy and soon after became a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and a PSIA Certified Level 1 Adaptive Instructor. She has worked and volunteered for various agencies serving people with disabilities including Camp Paha and the King Adult Day Enrichment Program which she thoroughly enjoyed. Theresa completed her Recreational Therapy internship with the United States Adaptive Recreation Center in Big Bear Lake, CA which is where her outdoor adaptive journey began. Theresa fell in love with the program and stayed on as a staff member for a few years until making the decision to move to Steamboat to work as the Programs Coordinator for STARS. Theresa is very excited to begin this new journey in life and to be a part of such an amazing program with incredible people.
Why I love STARS:
I love being a part of STARS because every aspect of this organization is centered around serving people and improving their quality of life through recreational activities. I feel very blessed to be involved with something so much bigger than myself. STARS has such a positive impact on not only participants and their families, but also the volunteers, staff, and the adaptive community as a whole. I love facilitating opportunities for people to enjoy recreation whether it be through getting back on the snow after an injury, getting to the top of the rock wall, or finally getting those turns down with outriggers – the possibilities at STARS are endless!
Other stuff about Theresa:
I love hiking, being outdoors, skiing, snowboarding, wakesurfing, camping, traveling, art, and good coffee
I enjoy spending time with my amazing family and friends and my dog Nova
I’m always down for a good adventure!
